1. Surf the web for inspirational sites that showcase design work, or look through magazines, books, and other publications at your local book store. Get to know the Top 50 Inspirational Sites listed on aiAlex, browse through Flickr, DeviantArt, or type in “inspirational websites” or “inspirational designs” on Google. There’s an endless wealth of ideas all around you.

2. Learn the ‘visual language’, by visiting an Art Museums, Art Galleries and Exhibitions, or by checking out local art events and festivals. Be a part of something artsy and creative. Join an art group/class, or even learn a new designing technique. By opening yourself to art, you will be inspired and motivated to create.

3. Watch Movies, whether you want to re-live your favs at home or watch a new movie that just came out in the theaters. Movies are definitely another source of inspiration, as they are nothing more than still images at 29.97 frames per second. They provide a lot of ideas for any creative individual. It’s not just for pleasure, but for work, since it can stimulate your creative side.

4. Apply new ways of doing things to your daily life. Like crossing your arms or legs in the opposite way, take a different route to your destinations, dress different, or even read a book backwards. Do things that are out of the norm, breakout of routines, and keep things new and fresh. Being creative with your own life will leak onto being creative in work, or just about anything else you do.

5. Go somewhere, plan a trip and go on vacation. If you can’t go far, at least visit a place that’s new to you or that you haven’t been to in a while. Whether it’s the zoo down the street or Fiji, make sure to visit such places from time to time. This will refresh your perspective on things and allow for creativity.

6. Join a creative website, blog, newsletter, or group online. This will keep you connected to what’s going on in the creative world, and help you by providing you with information on new ideas and ways to create. It’s always great to be active among others that share your same passion. You can also enter an online creative contest, competitions will surely get those creative juices flowing. Although I don’t recommend jumping into contests all the time, once in a blue moon is alright, and will help you by allowing you to watch what other individuals create.

7. Music, it’s one of the best pleasures in life, and without a doubt inspire us all. One way or another, we all categorize music and connect songs to emotions or past times, whether positive or negative, music is always a constant in our lives. Music is something strong and meaningful to us all, so why not once again let it drive us. Listening to music is a definite must, which allows for creativity to flow. So build your music library, it’s actually an investment in bettering the quality of your life.
